On the whole the video interface install was a bit confusing but Navtool support was very helpful, however, their website products descriptions tended to be a bit vague and it would be best to chat with their sales team first if going with their products so you know what you are getting. The new camera module has similar rca plugs for rear, left, right and front cams. I has some issues with the firmware updates. I think the original module I purchased was really designed for the 4.3 screen but is needed if you want hdmi phone mirroring. I may install a front camera in the future. I needed a separate camera module from Navtool to get the backup cam to work when shifting to reverse, the original video interface module is only used for phone screen mirroring but also includes rear, front, left and right camera rca ports. If anyone has the 4.3 screen and wants a cheap-ish aftermarket install this is an option.total cost was approx $380 if self-installing but you will have to manually switch to the camera each time.Ĩ.4 screen installed successfully with rb5 and new climate controls with Auto button. Here are the results on the 4.3 screen when pushing +. I am just waiting on the new 8.4 parts before buttoning everything up in the center console. At least now I can always view the backup cam for fun even if not in reverse. I'd have preferred to tap the reverse light but think I need a relay. The after market camera has a trigger wire near the RCA connector and the navtool wire harness has an always on 12v connection (when the car is turned on) so I connected to that and the camera is always on when the car is on. I tried to tap the camera into the reverse lights but it seemed like it wasnt getting enough voltage. I was planning to do the 8.4 swap in the future but this backup cam project pushed up the time line.įor the aftermarket camera I drilled into the bumper and routed into the trunk via a rubber plug on the left side.

I am hoping with the 8.4 upgrade the new firmware for the navtool interface will kick over when shifting to reverse. Its not ideal but I dont need the backup cam every time. Therefore, to switch to the camera I need to do it manually from the + button on the 4.3 inch screen and then hit the + button again when I am done with it to go back to the uconnect menu. Based on the info from Navtool I though the interface would work well when shifting to reverse the camera would automatically kick on but it did not and I need another camera module. The aftermarket camera is from Natika which I got on Amazon (~$40) at the time and a video interface from Navtool (~$320 on sale). I have the 4.3 inch screen but have ordered the 8.4 inch screen, rb5 radio, trim and updated AC controls from a salavge yard. This was my first DIY project on the car. I am in the process of installing an aftermarket backup camera in my 2014 SE and just wanted to share the headaches and my experience if anyone decides to take the plunge in the future.
